Ruccola or Roquette originates from South-America and Southern-Europe, where it has been bred for ages. Around 1981, ruccola was introduced in Holland by the company Tubbergen.
Due to the aromatic flavour, thyme is used widely in soap industry. The flowers and leafs are also applied for preparing tea and treacle. Furthermore the sweet, but strong, aroma is excellent for spicing vegetables, fish, meat, sauces, and liqours (Benedictine).
